TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

Hello,
I have been trying 3D plug track on my Linux machines but have hit the bufferes when it comes to the bit where using 3D-Tool-Free is required. Templot works fine using wine but 3D-Tool-Free causes an error as shown. I was wondering if 3D-Tool-Free needs to go online in order to work. If so it is unable to because it is running in wine. Does it need a windows compatible browser to be available in wine so it can run?

Hi Trevor,

3D-Tool is not required. You can choose to use any program which will render STL files visible as a preview.

Click the edit button to change to a different program:

Of course there is no actual requirement to preview your STL file before exporting, you can simply export it and view it in your slicer, or wherever you wish.

More important than a preview is the mesh-fix. You may be able to do that in your slicer, or alternatively you can use a (free) online service, such as:

cheers,

Martin.
