TEMPLOT 3D PLUG TRACK - To get up to speed with this experimental project click here.   To watch an introductory video click here.   See the User Guide at Bexhill West.

  • The Plug Track functions are experimental and still being developed. Some of the earlier pages of this topic are now out-of-date.

For an updated overview of this project see this topic.   For some practical modelling aspects of using Plug Track see Building 3D Track.

The assumption is that you have your own machines on which to experiment, or helpful friends with machines. Please do not send Templot files to commercial laser cutting or 3D printing firms while this project is still experimental, because the results are unpredictable and possibly wasteful.

Some pages of this and other topics include contributions from members who are creating and posting their own CAD designs for 3D printing and laser-cutting. Do not confuse them with Templot's own exported CAD files. All files derived from Templot are © Martin Wynne.

This is fun. Got a 3D printer standing idle? Go to:

https://touchterrain.geol.iastate.edu

Find somewhere interesting on the map, and click to download an STL file of the terrain. Ready to 3D print.

Here are the Malvern Hills on the Worcestershire/Herefordshire border:

This could be useful in planning a fictional railway.

And fun for children to build up the whole county, paint it to show railways, rivers, farms, plan walks and bike rides. :)

Hi Martin,

It would be interesting if it worked! How did you get that? Even over the Malverns I just get told there’s no data (all elevation values are 0.0), and can only see the default map view.

Cheers,
Paul

@Paul Boyd

Hi Paul,

You need to select a data source -- the default is USA only.

I clicked this, I didn't try any of the others:

Have fun. :)

Ah, thank you! Even on my widescreen monitor there's no drop-down arrow on that box so it didn't register with me! I wonder how Yr Wydffa will look on an FDM printer :)
